April 2020 “virtual” breakfast proves popular

A new experience for us all as our April 2020 networking breakfast was our first “remote” breakfast free via Zoom and it was sold out literally within 24 hours of our lovely secretary’s email.

April 2020 Virtual NetworkingIt was “bring your own coffee” and, sadly, no Mix breakfast, but mercifully we were spared the sight of members still in their pyjamas!

The meeting was very ably hosted by Sean Billings of Syrinx Systems and controlled by our chairman Allan Scott. The 20 attendees included the return of a former member, Nigel George (who has since re-joined!  Welcome back, Nigel), and the attendance of one or two who freely admit that getting up at 6am is too much for them. Starting at 9am certainly helped.

Members were asked to tell us what services they were offering to help during the coronavirus pandemic lock-down as well as anything they particularly needed. These included switches to remote working and some free services to help people out.

A guide to the help available to sole traders and micro-businesses

This month’s presentation was from Lisa Dickson of Caseron Cloud Accounting. It was particularly useful because she focused on small businesses with advice on how to access the help available and when.

Her website pages on these issues are at https://caseron.co.uk/covid19-tracker-sole-traders/.  It is updated daily as new details emerge, so it’s worth checking back from time to time.

Feedback

After the meeting, it was lovely to receive a message from Chamber Member, Tracey Strand of Tailor and Made Travel: What a great meeting, made me feel a little more positive about the future. As you know it is said ‘ it is good to talk’.

Future meetings

For the time being, meetings will be on the usual dates but via Zoom.  You will receive emails in advance to book and to give you the log-in details and passwords. For both the breakfast and the coffee sessions, pre-booking is essential.

Chairman Allan is always happy to receive any suggestions for what members want to see the Chamber doing in the future. Please send your ideas (and your wish lists) to [email protected]
