June 2021 – Lots of Tips from Members

June’s virtual breakfasters were asked to include a short tip in their presentations and there were plenty.

Sound advice included making sure to regularly check cash flow, being sure to respond to messages promptly, putting customer service front and centre, listening to customers, and not forgetting LinkedIn as a source of leads and customers.

This month’s 10-minute presentation was from Sarah Manning, of Secure Stores Nationwide.

Who knew there was so much to say about shipping containers?

Sarah set up her company in January this year after spending many years working in the industry.

She sources containers from all over the world for clients to either buy or rent.

The majority of containers are built in China and the definition of “new” is a one-trip container that has been sent to this country packed with goods in order to be more economical. They come in a range of sizes from 8ft onwards.

Second-hand containers are also much in demand for storage by clients with a smaller budget and also from farmers and the construction industry in particular.

Containers can be used for all sorts of purposes because they can be customised by fitting doors, windows and electrics. Sarah has arranged for them to be fitted as site accommodation, workshops, offices, coffee bars or sports clubhouses to name just a few examples.

In addition, one of the key uses currently is for self-storage companies offering secure storage for rental to customers.

Since January Sarah has sold more than 1,000 containers and hired out 81.
