February 2022 – Even hurricanes don’t stop breakfasters!

We offered people the alternative of switching to Zoom in the light of impending hurricane forecasts, particularly Storm Eunice!  However, our regulars weren’t deterred and a Mix breakfast remained the best incentive with 16 attendees braving the forecasts and just five joining virtually!

Our guest speaker, Jo Moss, gave us the lowdown on HR obligations for small businesses. Also, retiring Chamber member and committee member Kate Kelly was presented with flowers and a gift as a thank you for her stalwart support over the years.

Do you know your obligations as an employer?

Jo Moss of Moss HREven the smallest of businesses needs to understand its legal HR obligations to employees, was the message from guest speaker Jo Moss.

Jo started her own HR business in 2008 and became a limited company in 2019. She then took on her first employee via the Kickstart scheme in 2022.

Even just one employee means a business becomes an employer. That is why it is important to know the different HMRC rules for self-employment, contractors, IR35, and employees.

Jo has just launched her new Simple Steps tool kit to help those just starting out as a business and those small businesses starting to grow.

The kit covers different aspects and stages of employment. From what you need to consider before taking on an employee to how to advertise a role. From the actual recruitment process to making an offer and then onboarding a new employee.

All the information comes in videos, user guides, templates that can be personalised and sign language interpretation. All the products come with 12 months of unlimited access to those who sign up.

There was also a special offer for members containing the toolkit, 22 videos, downloads, and editable documents.
