August 2024 – How telemarketing can help your business

Even in the peak holiday season, the breakfasts at the Mix continue to attract networkers, with 20 attendees this month plus three online.

Guest speaker, Laura Morrison, of Your Telemarketing, explained how important marketing is for businesses.

Laura, who has been in sales and marketing for 35 years, set up her own company more than ten years ago, in 2011.

Having a marketing strategy, she said, is essential for generating new contacts.

A useful strategy to help find contacts is to save directories that you can use to gain new customers, but you have to be specific and update them regularly as 30% of them on average will age every year.

Another beneficial strategy, she said, is following up on emails and marketing campaigns. Direct mail is very undervalued at the moment, she said. She recommended using postcards for direct mail.

The return rate on email marketing is around 10% with a 2% contact rate.

Another useful tactic is to make sure you are doing something different from your competitors. One idea would be organising workshops or seminars which you can then use as leverage to sell more to them.

It is important to do your market research and check customer satisfaction by phoning customers and asking three or four questions.

Laura said she helps her team stay positive by employing them part-time, which helps with their energy levels and work-life balance.

Her final two pieces of advice were to absolutely never lie and, she added, that products are easier to sell than services.
