Congratulations, a musical testimonial and two demonstrations
There was an eclectic mix of presentations at October’s breakfast at the Cedars Park Community Centre.
Firstly, congratulations to Elaine Bowen of Vanguard Communications whose company won the Bury Free Press Best Start-up trophy at this year’s Bury St Edmunds Business Festival.
With only ten weeks to go it was impossible to avoid the “C” word thanks to Bob Scott (Niche Cocktails), who can mix bespoke cocktails in colours of your choice for business and other Christmas parties, and to Mike Drain (Superb Airport Transfers and Superb Travel Suffolk), who can get people safely transport to and from those parties or to and from airports for those getting away from it all.
Jim Darrah (J-Jaz) brought his demonstration dummy to show people a simple technique for helping someone found slumped forward in a chair. Often, he said, it means the person just needs more oxygen because when the head is slumped forward onto the chest the tongue blocks the oxygen flow. A simple, effective solution is to gently pull the head back.
However, the memorable presentation prizes this month have to go to two people, Bryan Halliday (Halliday’s Property Maintenance) for the shortest, shorter than a tweet, and to Allan Scott (Mill House Media) for his musical thank you testimonial to Bryan, entitled “Everyone should have a Bryan Halliday” sung to the tune of “We’re all going on a summer holiday”.
Peter’s Bees
Peter and Queen Bee were “buzzing” with delight at the brisk level of business that is happening.
Our chairman described his diary for the following week, starting on Monday, October 19, with our social event at Prezzo, Stowmarket. After that, he was due to meet the LEP in Norfolk to find out about funding for the proposed tech hub, followed by representing business interests at a combined Babergh/Mid-Suffolk district council scrutiny panel and then a meeting with the chairman of Sudbury Chamber.

Meditation and mindfulness for business
After all that excitement, Annya Stoddart calmed everyone down with a mindfulness meditation as part of her presentation on her new venture, Wisdom Mind, which will teach mindfulness and meditation techniques online.
Mindfulness can help with creative problem solving as well as improving energy and sleep quality, she said.
In business, it is helpful for encouraging clearer vision, insights and “aha” moments.
Members were then taken through a five-minute exercise that combined the use of two acupressure points on the hand, with focusing on breathing. Eventually, this exercise will be available for download from her website.
